The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remake Details Reportedly Leak Online

Mar 21,2025 Author: Connor

Rumors of an Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion remake slated for a 2025 release have ignited the internet, fueled by a purported leak of development details. Mp1st reported that a former Virtuos employee inadvertently released information suggesting the unannounced game is a significant undertaking, rebuilt using Unreal Engine 5, rather than a simple remaster. This points to substantial gameplay alterations.

Allegedly, these changes encompass Stamina, Sneak, Blocking, Archery, Hit Reactions, and the HUD. The Blocking system, reportedly inspired by action and Soulslike games, addresses criticisms of its original "boring" and "frustrating" mechanics. Sneak icons are now highlighted, damage calculations refined, and Stamina depletion-induced knockdowns are harder to trigger. A redesigned HUD aims for improved clarity, while added hit reactions enhance responsiveness. Archery, meanwhile, has reportedly received a modernization across both first and third-person perspectives.

The whispers of an Oblivion remaster first surfaced in 2023, revealed in documents from the FTC vs. Microsoft trial. A July 2020 list, compiled before Microsoft's acquisition of ZeniMax Media, included Oblivion Remaster alongside other Bethesda titles with varying release windows. Many of these projects have since seen delays, cancellations, or title changes (e.g., Doom Year Zero becoming Doom: The Dark Ages). The original document listed Oblivion as a remaster, raising the question of whether the project's scope expanded into a full-fledged remake.

The platform question remains. Given Microsoft's current multi-platform approach and the anticipated release of the Nintendo Switch 2, the possibility of an Oblivion release beyond PC, Xbox, and PlayStation is certainly intriguing. Leaker NateTheHate, known for accurate predictions, suggests a June release date for the remake, potentially coinciding with the Switch 2 launch window.

While Microsoft's upcoming Xbox Developer Direct will feature id Software showcasing Doom: The Dark Ages, an announcement of the Oblivion remake seems unlikely. Microsoft has teased a new game from a mystery Japanese developer, separate from the Oblivion rumors.
