WoW: Season of Discovery Players Rediscover Notorious Bug From 2005

World of Warcraft's Infamous Corrupted Blood Bug Returns in Season of Discovery

The infamous Corrupted Blood incident, a notorious event in World of Warcraft's history, has unexpectedly resurfaced in the Season of Discovery servers. Players have recreated the chaos of the original 2005 event, unintentionally unleashing a deadly plague in major cities.

The source of the problem lies within the Zul'Gurub raid, reintroduced in Phase 5 of Season of Discovery (September 2024). Hakkar the Soulflayer, the raid's boss, utilizes the Corrupted Blood spell, a damage-over-time effect that spreads to nearby players. While manageable under normal circumstances, the bug allows for its uncontrolled spread outside the raid instance.

Videos circulating online, like one posted on r/classicwow by Lightstruckx, vividly demonstrate the debuff's rapid spread through Stormwind City. The footage shows players succumbing quickly to the plague, mirroring the original 2005 incident where "pet bombs" were used to spread Corrupted Blood across the game world.

The reemergence of this bug has raised concerns, particularly regarding the impact on the upcoming Hardcore realms. Unlike Season of Discovery, Hardcore mode features permanent death, making the uncontrolled spread of Corrupted Blood a significant threat. Players debate whether this is an oversight Blizzard has yet to address or a more persistent issue.

While Blizzard has implemented fixes in the past, the legacy of Corrupted Blood continues to linger. With Season of Discovery's seventh phase slated for early 2025, the question remains: when will Blizzard finally eradicate this persistent problem?
