$1.4M in Nintendo Switch 2 Units Stolen in Truck Heist

Feb 13,2026 Author: Jason

Approximately 3,000 Nintendo Switch 2 units were stolen from a truck transporting inventory between Nintendo of America's headquarters and a GameStop location in Texas.

According to Denver 7, an ABC News affiliate, authorities investigating the theft—which occurred while the driver was en route through Colorado—estimate the stolen merchandise is valued at $1.4 million.

Tracking down the individuals responsible may prove challenging, as investigators are still uncertain exactly where along the 1,332-mile journey the theft occurred.

Was this a carefully planned operation, with the truck tracked from Nintendo’s base in Redmond, Washington and deliberately targeted? Or was it a random act? Police report that multiple pallets of Switch 2 consoles were removed from the trailer, indicating a degree of coordination.

If apprehended, the perpetrators could face multiple felony theft charges. Meanwhile, the driver stated he was unaware he was transporting Nintendo’s new console.

Local law enforcement is requesting any information regarding the crime and has provided a tip line at 720-874-8477.

The Nintendo Switch 2 launched globally earlier this month, selling 3.5 million units in its first few days. Despite early concerns regarding supply shortages, Nintendo has maintained relatively stable availability—though incidents like this are unhelpful.

For years, thieves have targeted high-value video game inventory. In 2020, during the PlayStation 5 launch, Sony’s sought-after console was stolen from moving trucks in the UK using a method known as the "rollover." According to The Times, criminal groups used this technique repeatedly to snatch PS5s from vehicles on the road—using additional cars to box in the truck while a thief, tethered by a rope, climbed aboard at speeds up to 50 mph and used cutting tools to access the cargo.

Nintendo merchandise has also been targeted before. In 2015, for example, an entire truck carrying copies of the Switch game Splatoon and various rare amiibo figures was stolen.

Additionally, this isn't the first Switch 2-related incident involving retailer GameStop, which notoriously disrupted the console’s midnight launch by stapling receipts directly through the Switch 2 screens.
