Old School RuneScape Is Finally Bringing the Sailing Skill, Release Date Revealed

After years of speculation, rumors, and sea-themed memes, Jagex is finally introducing the one feature many of us have been craving in Old School RuneScape. More than just a feature, the long-awaited Sailing skill is coming next month.

When exactly is Old School RuneScape getting the Sailing skill?

The Sailing skill launches in Old School RuneScape on November 19th, 2025. It’s been over two years since players voted for Sailing to become the game’s first new skill in more than a decade, defeating Taming and Shamanism in a community poll.

Since then, Jagex has rolled out continuous updates, community polls, and both alpha and beta tests earlier this year—giving players an early glimpse of what it’s like to command your own ship.

The last time a new skill was added to Old School RuneScape was in November 2006, with the arrival of Hunter. That means nearly 19 years have passed since the last one.

Meanwhile, check out the latest trailer Old School RuneScape released, showcasing the upcoming Sailing skill.

Sailing feels almost like a full expansion, which is why it’s undergone so many tests and revisions before its final release. It expands the playable map by 190%, unlocking RuneScape’s long-hidden open seas.

Once it drops, you’ll explore areas once unreachable, salvage shipwrecks, and meet new NPCs and questlines. You’ll finally be able to build your own vessels and sail into waters that were once just blue pixels on the map.
