Earlier this month, Alienware unveiled its latest 2025 gaming laptop lineup, introducing the "Alienware Aurora" series. The first 16-inch models are now available for purchase at Dell. The more budget-friendly option, the Alienware Aurora 16, comes equipped with an Intel Core Ultra Series 2 i9-270H CPU and a GeForce RTX 4050 GPU with an 85W TGP, priced at $1,949.99. On the higher end, the Alienware Aurora 16X boasts an Intel Core Ultra 9 275HX CPU and a GeForce RTX 5070 GPU with a 115W TGP, available for $2,299.99. These models are expected to begin shipping in mid-June. Additionally, both models offer the option to upgrade to RTX 5060 graphics, though these are currently on preorder with no set shipping date, as the RTX 5060 has yet to be released.

The new Alienware Aurora laptops feature a departure from the typical gamer aesthetics seen in other Alienware models, such as the recently released Area-51. These new laptops sport a sleek, minimalist design reminiscent of standard laptops, complete with a slim profile and minimal RGB lighting. The Aurora 16, for example, features only white keyboard backlighting, akin to an Apple MacBook. Despite their unassuming exteriors, both the Aurora 16 and 16X are packed with high-performance components and a sophisticated Cryo Chamber dual fan and copper heatpipe cooling system. The Aurora 16 is designed to be thinner and lighter, thanks to its more efficient Intel Core Ultra 9 CPU and RTX 5070 GPU with an 85W TGP rating. The Aurora 16X, being slightly thicker and heavier, accommodates a more robust cooling system to support its powerful Intel Core Ultra 9 HX series processor and RTX 5070 GPU with a higher 115W TGP rating.
These laptops are significantly more affordable than the new Alienware Area-51, which starts at over $3,000, and they're easier to carry, weighing up to 1.6 pounds less and being up to 30% thinner than the Area-51 16-inch model. Given current market trends, as reported by Tom's Hardware, it's unlikely that prices will drop significantly in the near future, especially with the anticipated rise in Nvidia GPU prices.
For gamers seeking a powerful mobile desktop replacement, the Alienware Aurora 16X is the clear choice. For just an additional $300, you receive a laptop with notable upgrades that justify the extra cost. Here's a detailed look at the enhancements:
