Krafton has taken a significant step to distance themselves from the ongoing legal issues involving Ironmace Studios by rebranding Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons. This move primarily affects the game's name and possibly some elements specific to the original Dark and Darker branding, with little to no changes to the core gameplay.
For those unfamiliar, Ironmace Studios is currently in a legal tussle with Nexon, who allege that Ironmace misused trade secrets. The crux of Nexon's argument is that Ironmace, founded by former Nexon employees, utilized assets and ideas developed during their tenure at Nexon to create Dark and Darker.
Despite the ongoing legal battle, the rebranding of Dark and Darker Mobile to Abyss of Dungeons has been confirmed, as we hinted back in February. The new name, Abyss of Dungeons, marks the completion of this transition.
No differenceRest assured, fans, the name change does not signal a shift in the game's core mechanics. Dark and Darker Mobile, now Abyss of Dungeons, was already set to introduce a third-person perspective and other modifications, but the essence of the game remains intact.
While this may be disappointing for Ironmace enthusiasts, there's hope that the studio's legal troubles will resolve soon, allowing fans to enjoy Abyss of Dungeons alongside the PC version of Dark and Darker. Keep an eye out for the soft launch scheduled for June 11th in Brazil, Thailand, Indonesia, and Mexico.
