As a practical person when it comes to spending money, I typically stick to essentials and the occasional video game on sale. However, last year, I found myself drawn to something as seemingly frivolous as a LEGO set. Growing up, I adored building LEGO sets, but as I aged, I drifted away from this hobby. Yet, the allure of LEGO, especially the expensive sets tied to beloved movie and video game franchises, eventually pulled me back in.
It took me a while to justify the purchase of the LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant. Although it had been on sale since October of last year for under $50, it wasn't until recently that I decided my desk needed a quirky new potted plant. The Piranha Plant, priced at $59.99 but discounted to $47.95 at Amazon and $47.99 at Walmart, seemed like a steal for a set with 540 pieces and the ability to adjust its pose.

Lowest Price: LEGO Super Mario Piranha Plant
My interest in the set was sparked after reading IGN's build of the Piranha Plant. Being a long-time fan of Mario games, this set felt like the perfect homage to the franchise. LEGO's botanical line offers many beautiful flower sets that could enhance my desk, but none capture the whimsical charm and slight terror of the Piranha Plant.

Now that I've built the set, I'm thrilled to have it on my desk. It transports me to the Mushroom Kingdom every time I glance at my little potted Piranha Plant. The building process was enjoyable and engaging, taking just one afternoon but still challenging enough to keep me focused. Currently, it's the only LEGO Nintendo set I own, but my positive experience has me considering adding more to my collection.

LEGO sets can be quite pricey, especially the adult-targeted sets that often exceed $200. It's easy to get carried away with purchases that can lead to financial strain. For me, the fact that the Mario LEGO set was under $50 made it an affordable indulgence. The joy of building it and the daily happiness it brings me definitely justify the cost. However, everyone has their own spending threshold when it comes to hobbies like LEGO.
