AGDQ 2025 Raises Over $2.5 Million For Charity

Summary

  • Awesome Games Done Quick 2025 raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, exceeding the 2024 total by $100,000.
  • The foundation focuses on early cancer detection, prevention, research, and outreach programs.
  • A standout moment was an 18-minute Crazy Taxi run, generating over $24,000 in donations.

From January 5th to 13th, Awesome Games Done Quick (AGDQ) 2025 raised over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation, surpassing the 2024 event by over $100,000. This annual winter event featured speedruns of diverse games, including Crazy Taxi, Super Metroid, and many others across various genres.

AGDQ, held annually in January, is one of two major events hosted by Games Done Quick (GDQ) each year, alongside Summer Games Done Quick in July. GDQ also organizes smaller events like Frame Fatales and GDQ Express throughout the year. In October 2024, a special Disaster Relief Done Quick event raised over $45,000 for Direct Relief following Hurricane Helene, providing aid to disaster-stricken areas in the Southeastern US.

AGDQ 2025 significantly contributed to cancer research, raising over $2.5 million for the Prevent Cancer Foundation. This exceeded the 2024 total by over $100,000, adding to the over $26 million already raised for the foundation through previous GDQ events. The Prevent Cancer Foundation focuses on early detection, prevention, research, and community outreach. The Pittsburgh-based AGDQ 2025 kicked off with a speedrun of the Switch version of Pikmin by Ray0ken, completed within an hour.

A highlight of AGDQ 2025 was a Crazy Taxi speedrun. While the game's fast-paced nature lends itself to speedrunning, its copyrighted music presents streaming challenges. Speedrunner Chuckles825 overcame this by performing alongside a live band covering the game's soundtrack. This innovative 18-minute run raised over $24,000.

AGDQ 2025 concluded with a randomized four-player race of Super Metroid on SNES, with two runners, Eddie and Andy, finishing within a second of each other. GDQ will next host Summer Games Done Quick 2025 in Minneapolis on July 6th, benefiting Doctors Without Borders.
