As if they could resist putting Alicia Silverstone back in the yellow and plaid. The iconic actress is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz in a highly anticipated Clueless sequel series for Peacock.
The series is in development with the streaming platform, and while plot details remain under wraps, we do know that Silverstone will be returning to the beloved character. The show will continue the story from the original 1995 film. This new project is distinct from the Clueless spin-off that Peacock was developing back in 2020.
Josh Schwartz and Stephanie Savage, known for their work on the original Gossip Girl series and its reboot, are teaming up with Jordan Weiss to write and executive produce the series. They will be joined by Amy Heckerling, the writer-director of the original Clueless film, and Robert Lawrence, its original producer. CBS Studios and Universal Television are also on board to produce.
This isn't the first time Clueless has transitioned to the small screen. Following the success of the 1995 film, a television adaptation aired on ABC and UPN from 1996 to 1999, starring Rachel Blanchard as Cher instead of Silverstone.
Silverstone's recent return to the role of Cher in a 2023 Super Bowl commercial for Rakuten shows her enthusiasm for the character, and fans are eager to see her back in Cher's iconic wardrobe.
