How Many Alien Movies Are There?

The Alien franchise boasts a total of nine movies — four in the main series, two Predator crossovers, two prequels directed by Ridley Scott, and the latest addition, a standalone film by Fede Álvarez.

Alien Movies in Chronological Order

1. AVP: Alien vs. Predator (2004)

The Xenomorph's story begins chronologically in the first of the two crossover films, AVP: Alien vs. Predator. Set in 2004, this film, directed by Paul W. S. Anderson, explores the concept of a "battle of the titans" first introduced in a 1989 comic. Humans uncover that Predators, known as "Yautja," have been visiting Earth for millennia. Ancient cults would sacrifice themselves to a Xenomorph Queen's brood, leading to the creation of adult Xenomorphs for the Predators to hunt as the ultimate prey. As expected, the 2004 hunting expedition doesn't go smoothly.

2. Aliens vs Predator: Requiem (2007)

Continuing in modern times and thus before the rest of the Alien series, Aliens vs Predator: Requiem picks up where AVP left off. A hybrid Alien-Predator, the "Predalien," wreaks havoc in a small Colorado town. A veteran Predator arrives to clean up the mess, resulting in a high level of carnage. This was the last crossover film in the Alien franchise. For more information, check out our guide on the Predator movies in order.
