It includes five booster packs from an excellent mix of sets — Surging Sparks, Stellar Crown, Temporal Forces, and Obsidian Flames — plus a promo card featuring either Kyogre, Dialga, or Xerneas. It’s essentially Pokémon’s version of a loot box, and yes, I couldn’t resist buying two. With chase cards like Pikachu ex, Terapagos, and Raging Bolt spread across the included sets, the chances of pulling something exciting are quite good. I'm not usually a fan of tins, but I’d definitely consider picking up another one.

And it delivered. You get three packs, one of which might contain a card like Pikachu ex or Latias ex, along with a tin that I now use to store... well, nothing. But I’m not upset about it. There’s a slim chance you’ll pull something like Milotic ex or Ceruledge ex if you’re lucky with the packs, and if not? You paid twenty bucks to take a chance and got some mildly useful storage in return. That’s more than I can say for half the cereal I’ve bought this year.

If your strategy is to end games quickly and stylishly, this is the card for you. Paradox Rift may not have as many chase cards, but the ones it does have — like Iron Valiant ex and Groudon — are drawn with such detail that they feel like future classics.

The promos and sleeves are nice, but I was drawn to this box for the Illustration Rares that not only look cool but also tell a story. Fezandipiti ex, for instance, is a versatile support attacker, while Cassiopeia offers character drama in a foil rectangle. The art direction in this set is almost pretentious, and I mean that as a compliment.
