If you're considering upgrading to an AMD processor, the timing couldn't be better. With the launch of the Ryzen 7 9800X3D earlier this year, AMD has now introduced its top-tier Ryzen 9 models in the Zen 5 "X3D" lineup: the 9950X3D at $699 and the 9900X3D at $599. These processors are considered the pinnacle of gaming performance, outshining even Intel's offerings. Pure gamers might want to opt for the more budget-friendly 9800X3D and allocate their savings elsewhere, while creators who also enjoy gaming should consider the Ryzen 9 processors for their enhanced core counts and cache, offering a significant performance boost for both gaming and productivity tasks.
Note: These processors are frequently in and out of stock, with more time spent out of stock than available.

Creative professionals who demand top-tier performance in both gaming and productivity should look no further than the AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D. This powerhouse boasts a max boost clock of 5.7GHz, with 16 cores, 32 threads, and a whopping 144MB of L2-L3 cache. While its gaming performance is only marginally better than the 9800X3D, it excels in productivity tasks, surpassing not only its Zen 5 X3D siblings but also anything Intel has to offer.
AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D Review by Jacqueline Thomas:
"The AMD Ryzen 9 9950X3D is arguably the most powerful gaming processor available today, yet it doesn't automatically outshine every other chip. For most users, the more affordable Ryzen 7 9800X3D at $479 will suffice. However, the 9950X3D is ideal for gamers who also engage in creative work with applications like Photoshop and Premiere, where it offers a 15% performance improvement over the 9800X3D. For a dedicated gaming setup, though, consider saving the extra $220 for a better graphics card."

AMD's X3D series processors are optimized for gaming, thanks to their 3D V-Cache technology. Since all three CPUs feature the 3D V-Cache on a single CCD, their gaming performance is virtually identical, with minor differences attributed to clock speeds. The Ryzen 7 9800X3D, with a max boost clock of 5.2GHz, 8 cores, 16 threads, and 104MB of L2-L3 cache, is a formidable choice for gaming. While it can handle multitasking and creative tasks, its core count limits its prowess in these areas, making it the ultimate gaming processor at its price point.
AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D Review by Jacqueline Thomas:
"The AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D delivers exceptional gaming performance, making it a top recommendation compared to other recent processors like the Intel Core Ultra 9 285K or Ryzen 9 9900X. When paired with a high-end graphics card, the 9800X3D ensures you maximize your GPU's potential."

The AMD Ryzen 9 9900X3D is the ideal choice for those engaged in creative work and gaming but constrained by budget. With a max boost clock of 5.5GHz, 12 cores, 24 threads, and 140MB of L2-L3 cache, it strikes a balance between the 9950X3D and 9800X3D. While we haven't reviewed this model yet, its specs suggest it will offer performance somewhere between its siblings for productivity and multi-core workloads, with gaming performance likely on par with the others.
If you've been holding off on Nvidia's Blackwell GPUs to see what AMD has to offer, you've made a wise decision. The AMD Radeon RX 9070 and RX 9070 XT graphics cards have emerged as the mid-range champions of this generation, delivering outstanding performance at a lower price point than their Nvidia counterparts. The Radeon RX 9070 starts at $550, while the 9070 XT starts at $600, though prices may vary due to manufacturer adjustments.
