Apex Legends is facing a significant downturn in player numbers, mirroring the stagnation experienced by Overwatch. The game's recent struggles stem from a confluence of issues impacting player engagement.
The chart below illustrates Apex Legends' prolonged decline in concurrent players, a trend only interrupted by the initial launch surge.

Several factors contribute to this decline. Limited Time Events often lack substantial new content beyond cosmetic skins. Persistent cheating, flawed matchmaking, and a lack of gameplay diversity are driving players towards competing titles. The recent release of Marvel Heroes, along with Fortnite's continued popularity and diverse offerings, further exacerbates the situation.
Respawn Entertainment faces a considerable challenge in revitalizing Apex Legends. Players eagerly await substantial updates and decisive action to address these core issues. The future success of the game hinges on their ability to effectively respond to these challenges.
