To Improve Game Stability and Localizations

The developers at FLINT have announced the removal of English dubbing support in ASTRA: Knights of Veda effective January 23, 2025, with the goal of achieving "better game stability and higher-quality localizations." This decision was communicated on January 20 as part of a Language Support adjustment update aimed at enhancing the game's localization and ensuring its stability.

During the scheduled maintenance on January 23, support for several languages including German, Spanish, Portuguese, Indonesian, and Italian will be discontinued. However, FLINT will continue to support Korean, English, Japanese, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, French, Thai, and Russian languages.

While English language support remains intact, the in-game English voiceovers will be removed. Post-maintenance, "countries outside of Korea will now have their In-Game Voice option set to Japanese." FLINT has assured players that these adjustments will not impact their ability to chat in any of the languages that were removed.

Though this change may be concerning for some fans, FLINT remains committed to delivering improved services and experiences for their "Masters of the Book."

Other Gacha Games That Removed English Voiceovers

FLINT is following a trend seen in other gacha games, where developers have chosen to remove English voice-over support. Notable examples include Square Enix's War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, Yostar Games' Aether Gazer, and Amazing Seasun Games' Snowbreak: Containment Zone, which have all partially or completely discontinued their English voice-overs.

In May 2024, Square Enix announced the removal of English voice-overs for future content in War of the Visions: Final Fantasy Brave Exvius, starting from Main Story Part 3, Chapter 8, and Another Story Chapter 3, Scene 7. Existing content will retain English voice-overs, but new content will automatically switch to Japanese. This move was made to prioritize the Japanese language for the game's future content.

Aether Gazer's developers made a similar announcement in February 2024, opting to remove English voice-overs entirely after the "Crepuscular Cloudsong" update due to financial challenges. This allowed them to redirect resources towards enhancing gameplay, performance, and future content.

Snowbreak: Containment Zone also removed English voice-overs starting with Version 1.4 in December 2023, following a thorough evaluation of player preferences and the desire to optimize the gaming experience. Some content will automatically switch to Japanese voice-over.

These decisions across various gacha games seem to be driven by language preferences and the need for efficient resource allocation. Prioritizing languages that most players use is a strategic move, and the long-term costs associated with English voice acting can be substantial. By reallocating these resources, developers aim to extend the game's lifespan and focus on elements that players value most.
