The last significant patch for Baldur’s Gate 3 now arrives with fan-requested features. Discover what's included in this final update and what lies ahead for the franchise.
Patch 8 Arriving April 15
After much anticipation, Larian Studios revealed Baldur’s Gate 3's final major update will launch on April 15, confirmed through their official Twitter/X account on April 11. The studio will host a detailed Twitch stream on April 16 featuring Senior Systems Designer Ross Stephens discussing patch highlights.
The stream begins at 1:00 UTC on Larian Studios' official Twitch channel. Viewers can reference regional timings for their local schedule.
What's Coming in Patch 8

Originally teased in November 2024 through Steam, Patch 8 delivers 12 fresh subclasses, a photo mode, and expanded mod support. While marking BG3's final major update, Larian remains committed to empowering player creativity through enhanced modding tools.

Players can anticipate new abilities, animations, visual effects, summons, cantrips, and specialized Oathbreaker Knight interactions. The update introduces comprehensive role-playing enhancements through refined mechanics and homebrew adjustments.
The photo mode offers extensive customization, including camera controls, lens adjustments, scene configurations, post-processing effects, decorative frames, and stickers for capturing memorable in-game moments.
Larian's Departure From D&D

Following Patch 8, Larian Studios will transition from Dungeons & Dragons to pursue new creative ventures. Founder Swen Vicke announced during GDC 2024 that neither expansions nor Baldur's Gate 4 are in development, confirming their departure from the D&D universe.
"While Baldur's Gate remains dear to us," Vicke stated, "our path leads elsewhere. We won't develop expected expansions or sequels, opting instead to create original content beyond D&D."
Future of Baldur’s Gate

Wizards of the Coast intends to continue the Baldur's Gate series, currently evaluating potential partners for future installments. Eugene Evans, Hasbro's Senior VP of Digital Strategy, emphasized deliberate planning for franchise continuation.
"We're committed to finding the ideal approach," Evans told PC Gamer, "without repeating the 25-year gap between Baldur's Gate 2 and 3. Careful consideration guides our partnership and development decisions."
Baldur’s Gate 3 remains available on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC platforms.
