Hulu may be bringing Buffy back from the dead! Variety reports a Buffy the Vampire Slayer reboot is in the works, with Sarah Michelle Gellar potentially reprising her iconic role as Buffy, albeit as a recurring character. The series will focus on a new Slayer.
Adding to the excitement, Academy Award winner Chloé Zhao (known for Nomadland and Eternals) is reportedly in talks to direct and executive produce. Nora and Lila Zuckerman are attached to write and serve as showrunners. Notably, original creator Joss Whedon is not involved.
Whedon's absence follows previous accusations of creating a toxic work environment on *Buffy the Vampire Slayer* and its spin-off, *Angel*.
Plot details remain scarce, but the reboot will center on a new Slayer, with the possibility of Gellar's return.
The original Buffy the Vampire Slayer, which ran for seven seasons (1997-2003), followed Buffy Summers, a high school student chosen to fight vampires and other supernatural creatures. She was aided by friends Willow Rosenberg, Xander Harris, and Watcher Rupert Giles. The series continued through a series of canonical comic books, and spawned the spin-off, Angel.
