NHN Corp's latest Android release, *Darkest Days*, is a gritty open-world zombie survival shooting RPG that sets itself apart from the company's previous offerings. This game plunges you into a world ravaged by a brutal zombie virus outbreak, where you're one of the fragile survivors trying to piece together the mystery of what happened.
In *Darkest Days*, you start your journey in Sand Creek, a place characterized by desolate streets and pervasive decay, where you can't shake the feeling of being watched. The expansive map allows you to explore diverse environments, from dusty desert villages to frozen-over islands and dilapidated resort towns, as you slowly unravel the origins of the virus.
One of the game's standout features is the use of vehicles. You can find and utilize a variety of rides, ranging from family cars to emergency vehicles like ambulances and police cruisers. Once you secure a vehicle, you can mow down zombie hordes and upgrade your ride to withstand multiple crashes and swarms.
The zombies in *Darkest Days* are notably aggressive, with some exhibiting erratic movement patterns and hunting behaviors. You can take them down one by one with precise shots or use explosives in a panic to clear out groups.
Shelter-building is another highlight, allowing you to create a full base complete with facilities and recruit random survivors. These individuals can help produce resources and provide backup during fights, adding depth to your survival strategy.
*Darkest Days* offers both solo and multiplayer modes. You can team up with others to battle endless zombie waves or take on massive mutant monstrosities for valuable loot. Additionally, there are PvP zones where you can compete with other players for rare resources.
With the global open beta, *Darkest Days* kicks off Season 1, dubbed "Fake Champion Luna." You'll have the chance to recruit Luna Bloody, a kendo expert, into your shelter. As you progress through her storyline, you'll uncover why someone with her skills is navigating the apocalypse.
