A big screen adaptation of the original Kane & Lynch game, developed by the renowned Hitman studio IO Interactive and released in 2007, had been in the works for years. At various stages, the project boasted attachments from several high-profile Hollywood stars.
In a recent social media post, Timo Tjahjanto, the director behind Nobody 2, disclosed that he crafted a treatment for the Kane & Lynch film, envisioning David Harbour, famous for his roles as Jim Hopper in Stranger Things and Red Guardian/Florence Pugh's dad in Thunderbolts/New Avengers, in a starring role.
"Never seen a script, but a couple years ago when that property was still kinda hot. I wrote a short treatment with James Badge Dale and David Harbour in mind," Tjahjanto shared. "Never gotten anywhere."

Tjahjanto can find some comfort knowing his treatment—one of many proposed for the Kane & Lynch film—did not come to fruition. A treatment is a document that outlines the plot and characters for a film studio, which is then used to develop a full script.
For several years, the project had Bruce Willis and Jamie Foxx attached, but both actors eventually departed as the script underwent multiple revisions. Later, another iteration was reportedly set to feature Gerard Butler and Vin Diesel in the lead roles, yet this version also failed to materialize.
Following the release of an average sequel, Kane & Lynch: Dog Days, in 2010, IO Interactive shifted their focus entirely to the Hitman franchise, leaving the Kane & Lynch series behind.
