Dragon Quest XII remains under development, with updates to be shared gradually, according to series creator Yuji Horii. During a recent livestream with his radio show group, KosoKoso Hōsō Kyoku, Horii confirmed the Square Enix team is diligently working on the project.
This marks the first update since May 2024, following the announcements regarding the passing of Akira Toriyama and Koichi Sugiyama, and Yu Miyake's transition to lead Square Enix's mobile game division. Prior to this, fan concerns regarding potential cancellation arose due to Square Enix restructuring and the absence of news. Horii's statement, however, reassures fans that development continues.
The only visual currently available for Dragon Quest XII is its logo, unveiled in 2021.
Initially announced during the franchise's 35th-anniversary celebration, Dragon Quest XII will be the first main series installment since 2017's Dragon Quest XI: Echoes of an Elusive Age. Square Enix has since reported that Dragon Quest III HD-2D Remake surpassed sales projections, reaching 2 million units sold.
