Nintendo makes history with the official China release of New Pokémon Snap, marking the franchise's long-awaited debut in the country. This follows the lifting of China's video game console ban, creating a significant opportunity for Nintendo and its iconic Pokémon brand.
Pokémon's China Arrival: A Historic Milestone
The July 16th launch of New Pokémon Snap signifies a pivotal moment. For years, the Chinese market remained inaccessible to official Pokémon releases due to the console ban, initially implemented in 2000 due to concerns about children's development. This ban, lifted in 2015, has finally paved the way for Nintendo to tap into this vast and lucrative gaming market. This release represents a major step forward in Nintendo's ambitious expansion strategy within China.
The partnership between Nintendo and Tencent, established in 2019 to bring the Nintendo Switch to China, has laid the groundwork for this success. New Pokémon Snap is just the beginning; Nintendo plans to release several other high-profile titles in the coming months.
