For much of the 21st century, Final Fantasy games were PlayStation exclusives. However, with a nearly 40-year history and a need to reach new audiences (and boost sales!), Square Enix, like many publishers, has embraced multiplatform releases. Beyond PC ports, they've significantly focused on remastering and releasing special editions for Nintendo's handheld consoles.
This isn't entirely new territory. Final Fantasy's relationship with Nintendo goes back to its origins; the first six mainline entries debuted on Nintendo platforms before Square Enix shifted primarily to PlayStation with Final Fantasy VII.
With Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth's PC launch and a significant Magic: The Gathering crossover boosting the series' profile in 2025, many are eager to explore the world of Final Fantasy. Below is a complete list of Final Fantasy games available on the Nintendo Switch, perfect for newcomers and veterans alike.
Twenty Final Fantasy games grace the Switch: twelve mainline entries, one prequel, and seven spin-offs. They're categorized below: mainline games (by original release date) and others (by Switch release date).
Author's Note: No Final Fantasy games are available via Nintendo Switch Online. Most retro titles have received updates and are available for purchase (included below).
The first six Final Fantasy games are available as Square Enix's Pixel Remaster collection. These feature updated graphics, soundtracks, UIs, and galleries. For a classic Final Fantasy experience, this is the ideal way to play. Available individually or as a bundle.
(Subsequent mainline entries follow a similar format, with images and release dates included as in the original text.)
(This section continues with the same formatting as the original, maintaining images, descriptions, and release dates for each game.)
Final Fantasy XVI is currently PS5 and PC exclusive. Remakes of Final Fantasy VII are unlikely for the current Switch but are rumored for the Switch 2 launch.
