Firaxis will change Civilization 7 after a barrage of criticism

Following a less-than-stellar launch, Civilization 7's developers at Firaxis Games are committed to significant improvements. The focus is squarely on enhancing user interface (UI) usability and overall gameplay experience. Addressing player feedback, Firaxis has outlined a plan to rectify identified shortcomings.

Currently holding a 47% positive rating on Steam, the game's reception has been mixed. Criticisms haven't centered on core mechanics, but rather on a simplified UI, missing features, and a perceived lack of content. In response, Firaxis has prioritized UI enhancements, promising improved map readability, refined menus, and a more intuitive user experience.

Planned additions include:

  • Multiplayer team functionality.
  • New map types.
  • Customization options (renaming religions and cities).

A substantial update (1.1.0) featuring balance adjustments and further improvements is slated for a March release. The full game launched on February 11th.

Many reviewers feel the game launched prematurely and requires considerable further development. The $70 price point has been heavily criticized, with players arguing it doesn't reflect the current state of the game. To recapture the series' former glory, dedicated fans are urging the developers to actively incorporate player feedback and deliver updates that directly address the existing issues.

Civilization enthusiasts eagerly anticipate that Civilization 7 will eventually live up to the franchise's established reputation for quality and detail. However, significant improvements are needed to achieve this goal.
