FBC: Firebreak Hits 1 Million Players, Remedy Commits to Ongoing Updates

Remedy's Control spin-off shooter, FBC: Firebreak, has surpassed one million players. Available free-to-play for Xbox Game Pass and PS Plus subscribers, the studio hailed this as a "major achievement," while noting "we still have plenty of work to do."

"As of last night, over 1 million players have joined FBC: Firebreak. This is a huge milestone, and we’re grateful to everyone playing," Remedy shared in a post on social media.

"We recognize there’s still much to improve, and we’re highly motivated to keep pushing forward. Exciting updates are in store for Firebreak players—more details coming soon."

Last week, the team pinpointed issues with the "first hour experience," admitting that FBC: Firebreak’s initial gameplay fell short due to "several factors," including unclear onboarding, poorly explained mechanics and tools, and "confusion about how to approach Jobs effectively." The developer also noted: "the power fantasy feels underwhelming early on, with starting weapons lacking impact and higher-tier weapons requiring excessive grinding."

"Even with a sometimes thin narrative, there’s plenty of enjoyment in tackling unpredictable monsters within Remedy’s delightfully bizarre bureaucratic Islam bureaucratic world," we wrote in IGN's ongoing FBC: Firebreak review. "I’ll keep playing this week to fully explore Remedy’s chaotic cooperative mission simulator and finalize the review."

Remedy recently outlined its commitment to post-launch support, including two new Jobs (missions) slated for 2025. Further updates are planned for 2026, the developer confirmed. All post-launch playable content, such as Jobs, will be free for all players. Cosmetic purchases are optional, but Remedy emphasized that these won’t impact gameplay and there will be no time-limited rotations or daily login requirements.

It’s a packed schedule for Alan Wake developer Remedy, which is also working on Control 2 and the Max Payne and Max Payne 2 remake compilation.
