Spanish studio MercurySteam, renowned for their acclaimed work on titles like *Castlevania: Lords of Shadow* and *Metroid Dread*, has announced their latest venture: an action-RPG titled *Blades of Fire*. This new project, developed in partnership with publisher 505 Games, promises to plunge players into a captivating dark fantasy world teeming with mysterious races and fearsome creatures.
The first trailer for *Blades of Fire* offers a glimpse into its fast-paced hack-and-slash combat, distinctive visual style, and a richly atmospheric setting. Fans of MercurySteam's previous works will notice gameplay and artistic design similarities with *Lords of Shadow*, while the game's environment and enemy designs draw inspiration from *Darksiders*. An intriguing element introduced in the trailer is a mechanical bird, which is expected to serve as the protagonist's mode of transportation across the game's expansive world.
Developed on MercurySteam's proprietary Mercury Engine, *Blades of Fire* aims to sidestep the optimization challenges frequently faced by games built on Unreal Engine 5. This strategic choice may offer a smoother and more polished gaming experience.
Mark your calendars for the release of *Blades of Fire* on May 22, 2025. The game will be available on next-generation consoles, including PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as on PC through the Epic Games Store (EGS).
