Civ 7 Devs Consider Bringing Back Past Civs and Their Leaders
There Is Still Hope for Gandhi and Other Civ Leaders

In a recent IGN interview on February 13, 2025, with Civilization VII lead designer Ed Beach, it was revealed that there is still a chance for Gandhi to return as a leader in the game. However, fans might need to wait a bit longer as his inclusion is likely to come in the form of a future DLC.

During the interview, Beach shed light on why certain civilizations and their leaders were not included in the initial release of Civilization VII. "So I would say we haven't forgotten about anybody who's been in our game before," Beach stated. He specifically mentioned the absence of Great Britain or England, noting the community's curiosity about their exclusion. "Certainly civilizations, there's a lot of consternation right now about where's Great Britain or England, why aren't they in our game?"

Beach explained that the decision to leave out popular civilizations like Britain and India was driven by the need to introduce fresh and exciting options to players. "There're just too many popular choices and we always want to have a few fresh ones that sound really new and exciting to people," he said. "So things are getting left behind, but we always are looking at the big picture, when we're going to bring leaders or civs into the fold. So there's hope for Gandhi, yet."
Given the extensive lineup of DLCs that followed Civilization VI, it's reasonable to anticipate that Gandhi will eventually find his way into Civilization VII. However, the exact timing of this leader's return remains uncertain, leaving fans to eagerly await further announcements from Firaxis Games.
