The beloved survival horror classics, Dino Crisis and Dino Crisis 2, have been resurrected and are now available on PC through GOG. These re-releases, part of GOG's Preservation Program, are DRM-free and maintain the original content that fans adored. Originally launched on the PlayStation in 1999 and 2000 respectively, these games have been given new life on modern systems.
Despite the fanbase's longing for a new installment or an HD remake, Capcom has shown little interest in reviving the series. The 2022 announcement of Exoprimal, a multiplayer action game featuring dinosaurs, was perceived by many as the final blow to hopes for a Dino Crisis revival. Furthermore, in August of the previous year, the series' creator, Shinji Mikami, suggested that the success of Capcom's Monster Hunter franchise leaves little room for a Dino Crisis reboot or remake.
Previously, the PC ports of the first two Dino Crisis games were challenging to find and run on contemporary hardware. GOG's efforts to bring these games back are highly appreciated by the gaming community.
"Thanks to the tremendous efforts of Capcom and GOG, Regina’s iconic line, 'You’re extinct!' no longer applies to the game itself," GOG stated about Dino Crisis. "The timeless thriller that defined a generation of gamers is made to last forever, enhanced for today’s systems, featuring all the original content you loved with numerous improvements."
In addition to these re-releases, GOG has introduced its Dreamlist, a community-driven tool where users can vote for games they wish to see revived or added to the platform. These votes help GOG demonstrate community interest to IP owners, potentially bringing more beloved games back to life on their platform.
