Halo Infinite's "Summer 2025 Update," running until June 10, is now live, bringing a wave of fresh content to the game. Players can dive into new playlists, wield the powerful Mutilator weapon, and explore sandbox updates and new Forge tools. The update also enhances the Weapon Bench with additional weapons and introduces 50 new tiers, four armor sets, bonus XP, and an extra challenge slot for those opting for the Premium Operation Pass.
Despite these additions, some fans feel it's too little too late for Halo Infinite, which has undergone significant changes since its launch. The developer, previously known as 343 Industries, has rebranded to Halo Studios following a sharp decline in player numbers. This drop was attributed to various issues, including a lack of content, poor progression systems, monetization problems, and the cancellation of a highly anticipated battle royale mode.
However, a growing number of fans believe Halo Infinite has transformed for the better. On a Reddit thread titled "Halo Infinite REALLY should do a 'relaunch' ad campaign. It's just not the same game as at launch. Not even close," one enthusiast shared their renewed excitement: "I can't imagine anyone who likes Halo but hasn't given this game a chance, or haven't played since launch, would be disappointed coming back. The game has evolved tremendously with three new guns, numerous new maps, multiple firefight modes, and a plethora of items to grind for and unlock. A relaunch campaign showcasing these changes could significantly boost its reputation."
Another fan echoed this sentiment, stating: "The game is easily the best since Halo 3 and the best 343 has produced. It just took a while to get here, but it's been fun to watch it unfold." Others praised the multiplayer aspect, calling it "the best Halo ever made."
In another thread, a fan reflected on the iconic image of Master Chief from Halo Infinite's marketing, expressing their continued love for the game: "I really love Infinite. It revitalized my love for the series. The best Spartan customization, a constant rotation of different modes, and a fun campaign with unique music. As I approach my first Onyx rank and max career rank, the gameplay feels fluid and organic, blending classic and modern elements seamlessly. Infinite has outgrown its initial release and only gotten better with time."
However, not all sentiments are positive. One less enthused fan remarked: "This image represents the last little bit of hope I had. I genuinely think Halo’s time is over, the people who understood how to make the magic happen are all scattered and gone."
IGN's review of Halo Infinite's single-player campaign in 2021 awarded it a 9/10, praising its combat style and memorable moments, despite some story shortcomings. As Microsoft continues its multiplatform strategy, some Xbox fans speculate whether Halo might follow games like Forza Horizon 5 and Gears of War to PlayStation. Microsoft’s gaming chief, Phil Spencer, indicated that there are no “red lines” in its first-party lineup, hinting at potential future expansions.
