Horror Hit Phasmophobia the Next Game to Get a Hollywood Movie Adaptation From Blumhouse

Kinetic Games’ spine-chilling paranormal investigation title, Phasmophobia, is set to make a chilling leap from the screen to the silver screen.

Renowned horror production house Blumhouse, known for iconic titles like Five Nights at Freddy's, The Conjuring, and M3gan, has officially joined forces with the UK-based developer to bring a feature film adaptation of the game to life. While no further details about the creative team or cast have been revealed yet, fans can expect more news as development progresses.

“This is a monumental milestone for everyone at Kinetic Games — the start of an incredible new journey,” said Daniel "Dknighter" Knight, director of Kinetic Games. “When we launched Phasmophobia five years ago, we never dreamed it would reach such incredible heights. We owe so much to our passionate community, whose support has helped shape the game’s lasting impact in both gaming and popular culture.

“Partnering with Blumhouse and Atomic Monster is a huge step forward, and we’re thrilled to see what the future holds for this project.”

Phasmophobia is a four-player online co-op psychological horror experience where players take on the role of paranormal investigators entering haunted locations. The goal: document supernatural activity by collecting evidence and surviving the terrifying encounters along the way. Since its early access launch in 2020, the game has not only defined a new wave of ghost-hunting gameplay but also surpassed 23 million sales worldwide.

Later this month, the highly anticipated Chronicle update will arrive, bringing major improvements to evidence gathering, journal functionality, and player progression systems.

Phasmophobia even earned a spot on IGN’s list of the 25 best horror games ever made — do you think it deserves its place?

While we weren’t overly impressed with Blumhouse’s previous attempt at adapting a horror game — Five Nights at Freddy's received a 4/10 from us due to its bloated plot and lack of the original’s tense, cam-based thrills — there's still hope for a better outcome this time around. A sequel to Five Nights at Freddy's is slated for release in December 2025, giving the studio another shot at nailing the formula.
