Kojima Productions teams up with Niantic Spatial for something brand-new

Following closely on their 10th anniversary, Kojima Productions is joining forces with Niantic Spatial.

  • A trailer evoking the studio's flagship franchise, Death Stranding, debuted during a recent livestream event.
  • The footage hints that something monumental and highly unusual may be arriving shortly.

This partnership marks a significant shift for both Kojima Productions and Niantic. The studio, established by Konami veterans and acclaimed director Hideo Kojima, is preparing to collaborate with the developer behind Pokémon GO and Monster Hunter Now on an entirely new epic of interactive storytelling.

During the "Beyond the Strand" livestream, a fresh teaser trailer highlighted the collaboration between Niantic Spatial (a spinoff from Niantic's gaming division) and Kojima Productions. Coinciding with the studio’s 10th anniversary, the A New Dawn teaser leaves viewers guessing about what to expect from this unique partnership.

While it might be tempting to speculate that we’re getting an AR version of Death Stranding, knowing Kojima, the result will likely be even more unconventional. Fans familiar with his theories on "strand games" will already notice echoes in the trailer, particularly in how the real and digital worlds interact.

What Is It?

Precisely. That’s likely the same reaction most of us had when the first Death Stranding trailer premiered. Many were skeptical about how Kojima’s boundless creative vision would translate into a coherent narrative, yet he (mostly) succeeded with that Norman Reedus-starring project.

Despite all the buzz surrounding this new venture, I doubt it will be directly tied to Death Stranding, even if it turns out as a single cohesive title. What is certain, however, are strong traces of Kojima’s distinct artistic vision—no matter how strange or bizarre they may appear.

In the meantime, while we await more details on this project, it might be worthwhile to explore other trending topics in mobile gaming here at PG. Check out our list of the best mobile games of 2025 (so far) to see which top launches from the past nine months have caught our attention.
