Konami Announces a Suikoden Game for Mobile Called Suikoden STAR LEAP
Mar 16,2025Author: Alexander
Suikoden is back! Well, sort of. Konami and MYTHRIL have announced Suikoden STAR LEAP, a new mobile RPG for Android and iOS, set to be a free-to-play title. While a release date remains unannounced, a launch later this year is anticipated.
For the uninitiated, the Suikoden series, originally conceived by Yoshitaka Murayama and developed/published by Konami since 1995, draws inspiration from the classic Chinese novel Water Margin. Known for its intricate political narratives, True Runes, and the legendary 108 Stars of Destiny, the series boasts eleven entries (including spin-offs), with the last main installment released in 2012. Instead of a direct sequel or full-fledged revival, Konami is delivering Suikoden STAR LEAP as a mobile experience.
What Awaits?
Suikoden STAR LEAP introduces a fresh cast of characters while retaining the series' signature gathering of 108 heroes. The game employs pixel art to evoke the classic Suikoden aesthetic. See for yourself:
The story centers on the Rune of Change, one of the 27 True Runes said to have shaped the world. The protagonist, Hou, son of the village chief, celebrates his first successful hunt before tragedy strikes—a devastating attack on his village that alters the course of his life. He embarks on a journey with Hisui (his servant with a mysterious emotional suppression), Shirin (his childhood friend with a strong sense of justice), and Shapur (a former general turned butler) to restore peace.
While excitement is palpable, the game’s reception within the community is mixed. Longtime fans eagerly awaited a proper continuation, and the release of a gacha-style game, STAR LEAP, has generated a degree of apprehension.
Further details will be revealed upon the game's launch. Until then, visit the official website for the latest updates.
