The Lenovo Legion Tower 5 Gen 8 gaming PC boasts an AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU, a GeForce RTX 4070 Super GPU, 16GB of DDR5 RAM, and a speedy 1TB PCIe NVMe SSD. The AMD Ryzen 7 7700 CPU can reach a max boost clock of 5.3GHz, with 8 cores, 16 threads, and a 32MB L3 cache. It's efficiently cooled by a robust 120mm tower heatsink fan. In terms of gaming, the Ryzen 7 7700 rivals a 13th gen Intel Core i7 CPU, particularly at higher resolutions where the GPU becomes the bottleneck. This CPU is also a formidable choice for all but the most demanding workstation tasks.
The GeForce RTX 4070 Super remains a stellar graphics card, capable of running modern games smoothly at up to 1440p resolution. Its performance is remarkably similar to that of the newer RTX 5070. According to Jackie Thomas' recent review, "while the Nvidia GeForce RTX 5070 offers a slight improvement over the RTX 4070, it falls short when compared to the RTX 4070 Super," with the RTX 5070 being just 4% faster on average across various tests and resolutions.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Super Review by Jacqueline Thomas
"The Nvidia GeForce RTX 4070 Super is the $600 graphics card we should have received initially with the 4000-series launch. It offers a significant performance boost over the original RTX 4070 and includes more VRAM, enhancing its future-proofing. Nvidia wisely maintained the launch price at $599, avoiding yet another price hike for a so-called 'mid-range' card. If you're shopping for a GPU within a $599 budget, the RTX 4070 Super is your best bet."
Gamers appreciate Lenovo's approach to building their systems with minimal proprietary components, making Legion gaming PCs highly upgradeable with readily available parts. Lenovo's cooling solutions are also noteworthy, especially for the CPU, ensuring efficient performance even with the more budget-friendly air cooling option.
