Nintendo unveiled a wealth of information during the Mario Kart World Direct on April 17. Players can now explore Mario Kart World, traversing familiar and new regions as they drive around. According to Nintendo, "In Mario Kart World, the game’s courses are interspersed across the world with roads leading from one to the next – so players can experience navigating roads in between courses!"

Embark on a journey through the world of Mario, encountering scenic views and iconic landmarks. Hidden items and missions await as players roam, enhancing their driving skills beyond traditional races.

The game introduces both new and classic courses, such as Mario Bros. Circuit, Crown City, Salty Salty Speedway, Starview Peak, Boo Cinema, Toad's Factory, Peach Beach, and Wario Shipyard. These classic courses have been reimagined to seamlessly integrate into the expansive new Mario Kart experience.

Grand Prix and Knockout Tour

Mario Kart World features two primary racing modes: Grand Prix and Knockout Tour, both accommodating up to 24 racers, the largest number in the series’ history. Racers must navigate various obstacles, including cars that launch Bullet Bills and attacks from Hammer Bros.

In the Grand Prix, players compete through four consecutive races to win the Mushroom Cup, Flower Cup, Star Cup, and more. A unique twist requires players to travel to the next race location to continue the Grand Prix. Completing all Grand Prix Cups unlocks a mysterious "colorful course," speculated to be the iconic Rainbow Road.

The newly introduced Knockout Tour takes players on an extended journey across the world. This survival-style race demands that players finish in a qualifying position to advance to the next race, or face elimination from the rally.

Items, Characters, and More

Mario Kart World introduces a fresh array of items alongside returning favorites. The Coin Shell can knock opponents aside while leaving a trail of coins, the Ice Flower freezes anyone it touches, and the Big Mushroom enlarges players, allowing them to squash other racers.

The game features classic Mushroom Kingdom characters like Mario, Luigi, Peach, and Bowser, alongside new additions such as Goomba, Spike, and even Cow. Players can discover alternate costumes hidden throughout the world, adding variety to their racing experience.

Playing With Friends

Mario Kart World offers diverse game modes for players to enjoy. Time Trials allow players to compete against ghost data from other racers worldwide. VS mode provides extensive customization options, enabling players to form teams and compete. Battle mode returns with Coin Runners, where players collect coins to win, and Balloon Battle, where the last racer with a balloon standing emerges victorious.

The game supports both local and online play, with up to four players racing in split-screen on a single system. Local wireless play supports up to eight players (two per Switch 2 device). The new GameChat feature on the Switch 2 enhances communication, allowing players to chat and view each other's screens.
