NetEase Games is making significant adjustments to the Marvel Rivals post-launch roadmap, aiming to shorten its seasons and introduce at least one new hero every month. This move is designed to keep the live service momentum strong and maintain player engagement.
During the Marvel Rivals Season 2 Dev Vision Vol. 5 video, NetEase provided a glimpse into the upcoming changes. Season 2, set to launch on April 11, will introduce the new Vanguard, Emma Frost, and later in the season, Ultron, whose class will be revealed closer to his mid-season debut. These additions are expected to bring fresh abilities and excitement to the game, setting the stage for even more impactful changes starting in Season 3.
In Marvel Rivals Season 3, which does not yet have a confirmed release date, NetEase plans to reduce season lengths from three months to two. This shift will allow for faster content updates without compromising their commitment to introducing a new hero every half-season. Following Emma Frost's launch, players will have a shorter wait for the next hero, enhancing the game's dynamic pace.
Marvel Rivals creative director Guangyun Chen shared insights in the Dev Vision video, stating, "Since the launch of Season 1, we’ve been deeply contemplating how Marvel Rivals can continuously deliver a fun and engaging experience for you all." Chen acknowledged the pressure from social media feedback and the team's desire to keep the game as thrilling as it was at launch. He emphasized NetEase's goal to fulfill players' fantasies about Marvel Super Heroes through new modes and a diverse character roster. Chen noted that after extensive internal discussions and evaluations, NetEase will adjust its systems to manage the increased content flow, with more details to be shared before Season 3's launch.
NetEase recently unveiled details about Marvel Rivals Season 2, shifting from a vampire takeover theme to a new storyline centered around the Hellfire Gala. This change will bring new outfits, maps, and characters, with further information to be released in the coming weeks.
Since its launch in December, Marvel Rivals has been a massive success, attracting 10 million players within three days. The game was released across PC via Steam and the Epic Games Store, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X and S. On Steam alone, the launch saw 480,990 concurrent players, and Season 1 in January peaked at 644,269 concurrent players, ranking it as the 15th most-played game on Valve's platform. Despite a subsequent decline in concurrent players, Marvel Rivals remains a top game on Steam. The introduction of Season 2 and the planned changes for Season 3 are expected to reinvigorate player interest.
