British indie studio Bithell Games has laid off most of its full-time team just weeks after releasing the time-loop action title Tron: Catalyst, following unsuccessful attempts to secure funding for a new major project.
Impact on Development Team
The cuts affect 11 employees, as confirmed by studio founder Mike Bithell in a social media statement. The announcement raises questions about the company's future direction.
"Before our latest game launched, it became evident we faced the same financial hurdles affecting many studios seeking investors this year," Bithell explained. "We've prioritized transparent communication with our team and provided severance packages to support departing staff."
Studio Legacy and Ongoing Operations
Bithell Games previously developed Tron: Identity, a puzzle-visual novel hybrid that established the studio's collaboration with Disney. Earlier successes include tactical RPG John Wick Hex and breakout indie hits Thomas Was Alone and Volume.
"Our team consisted of extraordinarily skilled professionals," Bithell emphasized. "To any studios currently hiring: these developers would significantly strengthen your team. We're happy to facilitate introductions."
The studio confirmed existing self-published titles will remain available with continued support. "We deeply appreciate our community and hope fans will follow our former team members' future endeavors," Bithell added. "Our studio's identity has always stemmed from our people—today that changes."
