Marvel's 2027 Film Sparks Buzz, Fan Theories
Sep 23,2025Author: Nova
Following the delays of Avengers: Doomsday and Avengers: Secret Wars to December 18, 2026 and December 17, 2027 respectively, Marvel fans are speculating what might fill the untitled movie slot originally scheduled for July 23, 2027.
If Marvel keeps this release date, it will become the only MCU film between the two Avengers events, with Spider-Man: Brand New Day now premiering first on July 31, 2026.
Fans have proposed numerous theories about the possible contenders. "Doctor Strange 3 seems the most plausible," commented one user on r/MarvelStudiosSpoilers. "Though there's a slim chance it could introduce the MCU's X-Men, depending on how Fox's X-Men characters factor into Doomsday."
Many supporters appear to favor a Doctor Strange sequel as the frontrunner. "Most likely Doctor Strange 3 (though I'd personally prefer Shang-Chi 2)," tweeted one fan, while another speculated: "I'd love if Doctor Strange III adapted World War Hulk." While intriguing, this seems improbable.
"Doctor Strange 3 is the logical choice between Doomsday and Secret Wars. Blade has clearly been postponed until after Secret Wars," another Reddit user argued. However, one commenter strongly disagreed: "Black Panther 3 makes more sense - Marvel and Ryan Coogler have publicly discussed developing it. This should be his next project."
Several fans noted how Black Panther 3 was being overlooked in discussions - particularly following the success of Wakanda Forever. "It's strange everyone focuses on Doctor Strange 3 when no director is attached," observed a Redditor. "Meanwhile, Black Panther 3 is clearly in development."
Many consider BP3 a top contender. "It seems furthest along in production," noted one user. "My money's on Black Panther 3, with Doctor Strange 3 as a dark horse." Another added: "Black Panther 3 could perfectly fit the 2027 slot. Nate Moore mentioned producing it before leaving Marvel, and Denzel Washington revealed they wrote him a role before the project was public."
However, another user pointed out potential scheduling conflicts: "Nate Moore has already departed Marvel Studios - he's currently filming Survivor. He said he'd return to produce BP3, not that he'd stay until its release."

Some fans still hold hope for Blade, despite its indefinite postponement since Mahershala Ali's casting in 2019. "Could Blade have secretly filmed already?" one theorized, while another joked: "Maybe it's Blade? LOL."
A valid counterargument emerged: "Whatever fills this slot should enhance Doomsday and Secret Wars' narratives. Blade isn't - and shouldn't be - that bridging film."
"I'd love it to be Blade but that's clearly not happening," admitted a Twitter user, proposing instead: "Perhaps Young Avengers/Champions? (Probably better as a series but I can dream)." Another suggested: "How about Midnight Sons - a team-up featuring Blade and introducing Ghost Rider on Battleworld?"
Interestingly, some predict Spider-Man will swing into the slot. "Sony will claim that date for Spider-Man: Brand New Day," declared one Twitter user, while another affirmed: "Brand New Day will simply move there. Easy."
