To celebrate its 15th anniversary, Metro is offering Metro 2033 Redux for free, but only for the next 48 hours. 4A Games made the announcement on Metro’s official Twitter (X) account on April 14, revealing that the game is available for free on Steam and Xbox until April 16 at 3 PM UTC / 5 PM CET / 9 AM PT.

This move is designed to give new players the opportunity to dive into the origins of the franchise. Additionally, 4A Games shared an update last month about Metro's 15th anniversary plans. On March 16, a blog post on the 4A Games' official website outlined their celebration intentions.

The post stated, "Throughout this year, there will be events, deals, and celebratory content on the Metro social media channels, to thank you, our players, for joining us on this journey."

Founded in Kyiv, Ukraine, and later expanded to Malta, 4A Games draws its inspiration from the works of Dmitry Glukhovsky, the Russian author renowned for the science fiction novel Metro 2033 and its sequels.

Despite the challenging circumstances due to the ongoing issues in Ukraine, 4A Games remains committed to exploring themes related to the conflict. They expressed, "These circumstances are incredibly challenging, the situation remains dangerous and not within our control, but we are currently as safe as possible. We want to manage your expectations around the reveal of the next Metro title; it will be ready when it is ready, and we can’t wait for you to see it."

The Next Metro

4A Games is currently developing two triple-A projects: the next Metro game and a brand new IP. While specific details about the new IP remain under wraps, the developers have provided some insight into the next Metro title.

The ongoing conflict in Ukraine has significantly influenced the development of the next Metro game. According to a recent post, "As we said in our last studio update, in 2022, a full-scale Russian invasion changed how we wanted to tell the story of the next Metro game. As art became life for many of our developers in Ukraine, we drew from that lived experience to create an even darker story, with those themes already present in Metro becoming ever-more apparent and important."

Despite the challenges, 4A Games remains dedicated to delivering compelling, reality-inspired narratives. The developers have reassured fans that they will overcome these obstacles and deliver a high-quality game for Metro's most poignant chapter yet.
