Minecraft Live 2025 has wrapped up, and Mojang has unveiled a slew of exciting updates and new content for the iconic game. The year kicks off with the first game drop, "Spring to Life," set to launch on March 25. This update promises to enhance the Overworld by making biomes feel more immersive and alive. Expect new variants of classic mobs like cows, pigs, and chickens, alongside enchanting ambient features such as the glittering firefly bush, falling leaves, and the whispers of sand. These additions aim to give players more reasons to explore the vibrant world of Minecraft.
The second game drop, still unnamed, introduces intriguing new elements to the game. Players can look forward to the Dried Ghast block, which, when rehydrated, transforms into a Ghastling—a smaller, cuter version of the Ghast. Nurture your Ghastling with snowballs, and it will evolve into a Happy Ghast. The Happy Ghast can be equipped with a harness, allowing it to carry up to four players as they soar through the skies. This feature not only adds a new way to travel but also includes the new Locator Bar, helping players find their friends while airborne. Mojang highlights that the Happy Ghast will be particularly useful for builders in Survival Mode, offering a taste of Creative Mode freedom within the constraints of Survival.
A major visual upgrade, "Vibrant Visuals," was also announced. This update aims to transform the visual experience of Minecraft without altering gameplay. For a deeper dive into this upgrade, check out IGN's dedicated article and visuals comparison video.
In addition to game updates, Mojang shared an exclusive clip for the upcoming "A Minecraft Movie" and announced a movie-themed in-game live event starting on March 25. This event, set in Midport Village, invites players to join Steve and his movie companions in defending the village from a piglin attack across three engaging mini-games. The event runs until April 7, with participants who complete all challenges earning the coveted Yearn cape.
From our visit to Mojang's offices in Sweden, we learned more about their stance on future developments. Mojang has confirmed they will not be creating a Minecraft 2, shifting to a free-to-play model, or using generative AI for game development, ensuring the focus remains on enhancing the current Minecraft experience.
