Netflix Games Cancels Five More Upcoming Titles
Following the unexpected cancellation of Don't Starve Together, Netflix Games has announced the shelving of five additional upcoming titles. This includes anticipated releases like Tales of the Shire and Compass Point: West. These games are either indefinitely postponed or will be released on other platforms.
This information comes from What's on Netflix, citing an internal source. The complete list of cancelled games is: Don't Starve Together, Compass Point: West, Lab Rat, Rotwood, Tales of the Shire, and Thirsty Suitors.
This move aligns with Netflix's recent investor call, which highlighted a strategic shift towards narrative-driven games, particularly those promoting their existing streaming content, such as their successful Netflix Stories anthology.
This news is a significant departure from previous expectations. While the cancellation of titles like Don't Starve Together and Compass Point: West might be less surprising, the axing of Tales of the Shire, a game many anticipated given its association with the popular Lord of the Rings franchise, is a considerable blow. This suggests that only Netflix-branded games are safe from future cancellations.
Given the current situation, now might be a good time to explore our ranking of the top 10 best games currently available on Netflix Games. While the selection may be shrinking, several excellent titles remain.
