Square Enix marked NieR's 15th Anniversary with a series of announcements for the franchise, including future events and projects. During the livestream on April 19, Square Enix introduced NieR's online Special Novel, titled [U]ndecided Option.
The online novel will receive three updates, with the first already accessible. The subsequent updates are scheduled for April 25 and May 2. The novel's synopsis teases, "Such a 'servant' meets a mysterious boy with a mysterious air and is guided."
In conjunction with this announcement, Square Enix launched the NieR 15th Anniversary website, serving as the central hub for the online special novel and other upcoming projects and events related to the anniversary celebration.
Square Enix is organizing an exhibition at Sunshine City in Ikebukuro, Japan, showcasing new artwork of the protagonists from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation. Additional details on tickets and other information will be shared soon.
Further performances have been scheduled for the NieR: Orchestra Concert 12024 in Osaka on July 25 and 26, and in Tokyo on August 2 and 3. Tickets for these concerts are available through a lottery system, with more information on the concert's official website.
A range of upcoming merchandise was also revealed, including an album featuring newly recorded studio jazz arrangements from NieR: Dinner Show – Somethin’ or Other 12024, set for release in December 2024. Additionally, the NieR Weapon Story book, encompassing over 650 stories of weapons from Replicant, Automata, and Re[in]carnation, and scale figures of the NieR series protagonists were announced.
NieR's first mobile game, NieR Re[in]carnation, will launch a developer blog series starting April 28, with monthly updates planned for the remainder of the year, offering insights into the game's creation process.
Originally launched in January 2021, the game was discontinued in April 2024 due to monetization challenges. Fans are curious about the sudden introduction of a developer blog for the now-closed title, sparking speculation about potential sequels or remakes, although no official statements have been released yet.
