Information gleaned from developers suggests the Switch 2 won't arrive before April 2025. GamesIndustry.biz podcast host Chris Dring reported that developers have been advised to not expect a launch within the current fiscal year (ending March 2025). Many hope for an April or May release, avoiding a potential clash with other major titles.
Avoiding a launch conflict with games like the anticipated "GTA 6" (rumored for Fall 2025) is a possible reason for the later release date. Journalist Pedro Henrique Lutti Lippe, on the O X do Controle podcast, speculates an announcement before August 2024. This aligns with Nintendo's stated intention to announce the Switch 2 before the end of its fiscal year (March 31, 2025). However, all of this remains unconfirmed until an official Nintendo announcement.
Nintendo's stock experienced a slight dip following a reported decline in Switch sales. While Q1 FY2025 saw a significant drop in sales (-46.4%), 2.1 million units were still sold. This is in contrast to the overall 15.7 million units sold for the year ending March 2024, exceeding initial sales projections.
Nintendo emphasized that over 128 million users engaged with Switch software in the year leading up to June 2024. Despite the upcoming Switch 2, Nintendo plans to maximize both hardware and software sales for the current model, projecting 13.5 million Switch unit sales for FY2025. The company's continued focus on the original Switch underscores its enduring popularity.
