Nintendo has unveiled an updated design for Diddy Kong, following the recent redesign of his larger companion, Donkey Kong. Earlier this year, fans observed noticeable changes to Donkey Kong's appearance in official artwork and early footage from Mario Kart World.
The new look for Diddy Kong was revealed through artwork on Nintendo's website and brand images showcased at Licensing Expo 2025, currently being held in Las Vegas. According to Nintendo Life, the updated Diddy Kong features a more cartoonish style with rounder eyes and a cheekier, friendlier smile.
Visitors at the Licensing Expo 2025, an event where brands promote their franchises and forge merchandising and partnership deals, can view the revamped Diddy (and Donkey) Kong in person. Attendee Cptn_Alex shared photos on social media, highlighting the new designs.

Nintendo has not made any official statements regarding the redesigns of Diddy Kong and Donkey Kong, though these changes are believed to align with the characters' appearances in the successful The Super Mario Bros. Movie.
Even Princess Peach has undergone a slight redesign, with her appearance on the box of the Switch game Princess Peach: Showtime! updated to resemble her portrayal in the movie, as previously noted by IGN's sister site Eurogamer.

Donkey Kong is set to star in the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2 game, Donkey Kong Bananza. Although Diddy Kong's inclusion has not been confirmed, the presence of other Kong family members like Cranky Kong, along with the refreshed look for Diddy, suggests a high likelihood of his involvement.
Additionally, the sequel to The Super Mario Bros. Movie, tentatively titled Super Mario World, is expected to feature more of Nintendo's beloved apes, including the redesigned Donkey and Diddy Kong, following their significant roles in the original film.
