Nintendo Urged to Pull Unpatched Game from Switch 2 eShop

Nov 19,2025 Author: Nova

Limited Run Games has requested that Nintendo remove the Gex Trilogy from the Nintendo Switch 2 eShop until it becomes clear when a patch will be released to resolve a backward compatibility issue.

In a social media statement, Limited Run explained that the patch is unlikely to arrive this week, citing delays in the approval process, which it attributed to the recent US public holiday. Consequently, the publisher has asked Nintendo to temporarily pull the game from the store.

The company noted that it encountered Switch 2 backward compatibility problems with several titles originally launched for the Switch 1. While a recent firmware update for the Switch 2 resolved the issue for most of its games, the Gex Trilogy remained affected. Limited Run developed a patch to fix the problem and is currently awaiting approval for its public release.

"Since we are uncertain when the Gex Trilogy on Switch 2 will be fixed via firmware, we submitted our own patch last week to address the problem," Limited Run stated. "Due to the Juneteenth holiday, the approval process is delayed this week, but we anticipate releasing the patch early next week.

"In the meantime, we have requested that Nintendo remove the game from the Switch 2 eShop. We appreciate your patience as we collaborate with Nintendo to resolve these issues."

The publisher has advised players to verify whether other Limited Run titles are now functioning correctly—a list of which appears below:

The Gex Trilogy includes all three platforming adventures of the witty, sarcastic gecko: Gex, Gex: Enter the Gecko, and Gex 3: Deep Cover Gecko. It launched on June 16 for PC, PS5, Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, Xbox Series, and last-generation consoles. The original Gex debuted in 1995 for the 3DO and was later ported to the PlayStation, Sega Saturn, and PC. Sequels followed in 1998 and 1999, but publisher Square Enix has not released any new entries since—making this remaster particularly anticipated.

The Nintendo Switch 2 is off to a robust start, having sold 3.5 million units, though an analysis of launch-week sales indicates mixed results for games not developed by Nintendo.
