Nintendo Warns U.S. Customers: Switch 2 Delivery Not Guaranteed Due to High Demand
May 06,2025Author: Sophia
Nintendo has issued a crucial update for U.S. fans eagerly awaiting the release of the Switch 2. The company announced on its website that it might not be able to guarantee delivery by the console's launch date of June 5, 2025, due to overwhelming demand. This follows a similar warning issued to customers in Japan, highlighting the intense global interest in the next-generation console.
For those who have registered their interest in purchasing a Switch 2 from the My Nintendo Store, Nintendo has clarified that invitation emails might arrive after the console's release. However, the company assures customers that the shipping date will be confirmed upon purchase. Nintendo expressed gratitude for the enthusiasm shown by fans, stating, "We're thrilled by the enthusiasm for Nintendo Switch 2! Due to the very high demand, we will be working diligently to fulfill orders as product becomes available, but delivery by June 5 is not guaranteed."
In light of these challenges, Nintendo suggests that fans might have a better chance of securing a Switch 2 at launch by pre-ordering through third-party retailers. However, pre-orders at major outlets like GameStop have already sold out, indicating the fierce competition for this coveted console. Nintendo encourages those still interested in waiting for an invitation from the My Nintendo Store to take no further action after registering their interest.

The difficulties faced by fans trying to pre-order the Switch 2 on April 24, 2025, coupled with Nintendo's recent warning, underscore the anticipated scarcity of the console at launch. Earlier in the week, Nintendo's president Shuntaro Furukawa noted in a statement on X / Twitter that 2.2 million people in Japan alone had applied to pre-order the Switch 2 directly from the My Nintendo Store. Furukawa highlighted that this number far exceeded expectations and the available supply for the launch date.
According to an FAQ on Nintendo's website, the first batch of invitations for the U.S. My Nintendo Store will begin on May 8, 2025, with additional invitations sent out periodically until purchasing is opened to everyone. The initial invitations will be sent on a first-come, first-served basis to eligible registrants who meet specific priority criteria. Invitees will have 72 hours from the time the email is sent to complete their purchase.
To be eligible for priority invitations, customers must meet the following criteria:
Have purchased any Nintendo Switch Online membership
Have maintained a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership for at least 12 months
Have opted in to share gameplay data and logged at least 50 hours of total gameplay
Last week, Nintendo confirmed that Switch 2 pre-orders in the U.S. would commence on April 24, 2025, maintaining the original price of $449.99 and the launch date of June 5. The Switch 2 + Mario Kart World bundle will also remain priced at $499.99, with no changes to the pricing of Mario Kart World ($79.99) and Donkey Kong Bananza ($69.99) at launch. However, amidst ongoing tariff issues, Nintendo has increased the prices of Switch 2 accessories.
Originally, pre-orders were scheduled to open on April 9, but Nintendo delayed them to better assess the impact of tariffs and market conditions.
