DC Studios head James Gunn has officially set an August 21 release date for Peacemaker Season 2 on Max, sharing a brief new teaser.
In a social media post, Gunn called the Season 2 premiere "one of my favorite things ever." The preview features John Cena back in action, flashing a signature smirk at the camera against a fiery backdrop. Peacemaker is now recognized "as a superhero," he is informed.

Peacemaker Season 2 follows the July 11 debut of Superman, the major launch film for Gunn's rebooted DC Universe. It will be the third official project in the new DCU, coming after last year's Creature Commandos animated series and this summer's Superman movie.
The refreshed cinematic universe led by Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran departs from the negatively received DC Extended Universe, which featured films like Justice League and Batman v Superman. However, some narrative threads will continue.
Peacemaker embodies this transition, as its first season was part of the old DCEU, while Season 2 is a cornerstone of the new DCU.
Gunn has noted that "many story elements will remain consistent for Peacemaker," though specifics on what carries over from the DCEU are still unclear. He confirmed the entire main cast returns, with John Cena leading alongside Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Gunn also stated the series will canonically follow the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the movie's storyline directly impacting Peacemaker.
