Max has unveiled an exciting new trailer for Peacemaker Season 2, which intensifies its ties to the Superman narrative by introducing Maxwell Lord, Hawkgirl, and Guy Gardner right from the opening scene. The trailer begins with Sean Gunn portraying Maxwell Lord, Nathan Fillion as Guy Gardner / Green Lantern, and Isabela Merced as Kendra Saunders / Hawkgirl, conducting a rather dismissive interview with John Cena’s character, Peacemaker, for a potential superhero team. The interview quickly turns sour, leaving Peacemaker visibly disheartened as he exits the building.
This trailer provides the first glimpses of these supporting characters, who are also slated to appear in James Gunn's upcoming Superman movie. The anticipation for Peacemaker Season 2 is building as it is set to premiere on August 21, following the release of Superman on July 11. This makes it the third installment in the newly rebooted DCU, which was launched with the Creature Commandos TV series late last year.
Under the direction of James Gunn and co-CEO Peter Safran, the DCU is steering away from the much-criticized DC Extended Universe (DCEU), previously highlighted by films like Justice League, Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, and Man of Steel. Despite this shift, certain elements from the DCEU will persist, with Peacemaker serving as a prime example. While Season 1 was part of the old DCEU, Season 2 marks its transition into the new DCU.
James Gunn has assured fans that "many strands will remain consistent as far as Peacemaker's story goes," although it's still uncertain which specific elements will carry over from the DCEU to the DCU. He has confirmed that all members of Team Peacemaker will reprise their roles, with John Cena leading the cast, joined by Frank Grillo as Rick Flag Sr., Freddie Stroma as Adrian Chase, and Danielle Brooks as Leota Adebayo.
Moreover, Gunn has indicated that Peacemaker Season 2 will be set after the events of both Creature Commandos and Superman, with the latter's events directly influencing Peacemaker's storyline.
Achieving peace is a team effort.
