Hololive VTuber Pekora Joins as a Prepper
Kojima Productions made the official reveal on Twitter (X) on May 29, confirming that Hololive VTuber Usada Pekora will appear in *Death Stranding 2* as a Prepper—a character archetype representing individuals living off the grid. Pekora is one of Japan's most popular VTubers under Hololive Production and part of the third generation known as "hololive fantasy." With over 2.7 million subscribers, she ranks as the fourth most-followed Hololive talent.
The announcement included a short video clip showing Pekora greeting the player upon exiting a Prepper Shelter—an underground bunker where these NPCs reside. While details about her full role remain under wraps, the post teased, “What kind of Prepper could she be…? Find out after the game launches!”
This isn’t the first time Pekora has crossed paths with Kojima Productions. Last year, she visited their studio, and series creator Hideo Kojima shared a photo of them posing together beside a Ludens statue—the studio’s iconic mascot. Pekora later responded on social media, expressing gratitude for the memorable experience. Fans speculate that Kojima’s admiration for her content played a role in this collaboration, further expanding the game’s cultural reach. Given Hololive’s massive global following, this partnership presents a unique opportunity to attract new players to the franchise.
More Celebrity Cameos Expected
During the latest episode of the KojiPro podcast, Hideo Kojima hinted that even more celebrity appearances are lined up for *Death Stranding 2*. As translated by Genki Gamer, Kojima revealed that many individuals were motion-captured for the game, though some had to be cut due to storage limitations. Most of those scanned were intended to portray Preppers, while others were designed as major characters. Several also recorded voiceovers for their roles.
While no official list of confirmed cameo actors has been released, fans eagerly await further reveals as the launch date approaches. The original *Death Stranding* was praised for its eclectic cast, featuring personalities like Conan O’Brien as "The Wandering MC," Junji Ito as "The Engineer," and Geoff Keighley as "The Ludens Fan."
