Pokémon Fossil Museum to Display Real and Fake Fossils in U.S. Next Year

May 16,2025 Author: Jack

The Pokémon Company has exciting news for fans in North America: the Pokémon Fossil Museum is set to open its doors in May 2026. This unique exhibition, which first debuted in Japan, is making its way to the Chicago's Field Museum on May 22, 2026, marking its first international appearance.

Curious about what the Pokémon Fossil Museum entails? It's a fascinating display that juxtaposes fabricated Pokémon "fossils" with actual ancient lifeforms found in real-world fossils. Visitors will have the opportunity to explore vibrant Pokémon models alongside extinct species from the Field Museum's collection. This includes scientific casts of iconic Field Museum dinosaurs such as SUE the T. rex and the Chicago Archaeopteryx, displayed next to Fossil Pokémon like Tyrantrum and Archeops. The museum invites Pokémon Trainers to spot the intriguing differences and similarities between these ancient and fictional creatures.

For those unable to travel to either Japan or Chicago, The Pokémon Company and the Toyohashi Museum of Natural History have collaborated to bring the Pokémon Fossil Museum to you. Fans can now embark on a virtual tour of the exhibit, offering a glimpse into the world of both real and Pokémon fossils, from the majestic tyrannosaurus to the formidable Tyrantrum, all from the comfort of their homes.

In other Pokémon-related news, a recent incident in the UK highlighted the darker side of Pokémon fandom. Authorities arrested a man after discovering he was in possession of stolen Pokémon cards valued at £250,000 (approximately $332,500). The significant haul was uncovered during a police raid in Hyde, Tameside, on the outskirts of Greater Manchester. A police spokesperson humorously remarked, "Gotta catch 'em all," in reference to the popular Pokémon slogan.
