Pokémon Gold and Silver introduced an in-game time system wherein the current time and day of the week is kept track of using an internal clock and affects the appearances of certain Pokémon and game events. Moreover, Gold and Silver introduced 100 new species of Pokémon, known as Gen 2 Pokémon, such as Pichu, Cleffa, Hoothoot, Chikorita, Umbreon, Ho-Oh, Lugia, and a whole lot more. The game received a 10th anniversary remake for the Nintendo DS in 2009, named Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver.
