The Pokémon Company has confirmed that Pokémon TCG Pocket will not be entering its competitive circuit anytime soon. Dive into the details about the future of Pokémon TCG Pocket in competitive play and explore the potential reasons behind this decision.
As of now, there are no plans for Pokémon TCG Pocket to join the ranks of Pokémon's competitive circuit. In a recent interview with VGC on February 25, 2025, The Pokémon Company’s Director of eSports, Chris Brown, shared that while they are always considering new titles for the competitive scene, Pokémon TCG Pocket isn't on the immediate horizon.
Brown lightheartedly mentioned "Pokemon Sleep is out there too," referencing the company's playful April Fool’s parody trailer for the Pokemon Sleep Champion Tournament. However, he made it clear that "at this time there are no plans for Pokemon Pocket to join, but we’re always looking at things."
While The Pokémon Company hasn't explicitly stated the reasons for excluding Pokémon TCG Pocket from the competitive scene, the community has its theories. The game, launched in October 2024, is still in its infancy, having only released two sets to date. This early stage of development could be a contributing factor.
Despite featuring competitive elements since its launch, the game faces ongoing balancing issues that players have urged the developers to address. Pokémon TCG Pocket is designed as a simplified, more beginner-friendly version of the traditional Pokémon card game, which suggests that a competitive environment might not align with its core design philosophy.
The Pokémon Competitive Circuit remains vibrant, hosting events for Pokémon TCG, Pokémon GO, Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, and Pokémon Unite, all of which will be showcased at the upcoming Pokémon World Championships in August 2025 in Anaheim, California.

The upcoming Pokémon Presents event could unveil a new set for Pokémon TCG Pocket, following the release of the Space Time Smackdown set on January 30, 2025. Although Pokémon has not disclosed what will be featured in the livestream, speculation is rife among fans about a major announcement for the franchise.
While there's been a lack of new information about Pokémon Legends: Z-A since its announcement in 2024, anticipation remains high for any updates, especially given its slated 2025 release. There's also buzz around potential reveals of new mega evolutions. The Pokémon Presents on February 27, 2025, at 6 AM PT / 9 AM ET, promises to offer fans a glimpse into Pokémon's future plans across various titles.
