PSA: Days Gone Remastered $10 PS5 Upgrade Not Available for Game Redemptions via PS Plus

Feb 19,2025 Author: Amelia

Days Gone Remastered, a highlight of Sony's recent State of Play, has sparked controversy among PlayStation Plus subscribers due to its $10 upgrade policy. Sony's confirmation that the upgrade is exclusive to owners of the PlayStation 4 disc or digital version excludes those who acquired the game through PS Plus.

This means PS Plus users, including those who obtained Days Gone through the now-defunct PS Plus Collection or the April 2021 Essential monthly games, must pay the full $49.99 for the PS5 remaster.

This pricing detail has ignited a wave of online complaints from disgruntled subscribers. A PlayStation Plus subreddit post showcases numerous comments expressing disappointment; many users state they would have paid the $10 upgrade but will now forgo the game entirely.

One user, squarejellyfish_, noted the potential lost revenue: "They would actually have made a decent chunk of change if PS Plus players were eligible, even if most didn’t want to play it they’d at least be interested in paying 10 bucks to try it out for an hour or two.” Others echoed this sentiment, highlighting the missed opportunity for additional sales. teckn9ne79 commented, “They should let Essentials upgrade cause I would pay the $10, but I will not buy it any other way,” while dredizzle99 added, "Yeah this seems pretty stupid...Surely the majority of people that have it on PS plus are thinking the same thing, so they're basically losing all the potential sales from them.” jackanyon95 criticized the decision, stating, "They gave away the game for free so every copy is an extra £10/$10 they wouldn't have had but they decided to be awkward instead and cut out half the owner base...I'm not paying full price, it didn't even need a remaster."

While some PS Plus subscribers understand Sony's likely financial calculations behind this decision, the company is facing criticism for perceived stinginess, particularly from dedicated fans who expected more generosity.

Days Gone Remastered wasn't the only PlayStation game unveiled at State of Play. For a complete overview of the February 2025 announcements, consult IGN's State of Play roundup.
